Backflow Prevention Program

Ken-Caryl Ranch Water & Sanitation District is committed to providing you clean, safe drinking water.

To help meet this commitment we have a program to prevent backflow and cross connections to the water system.

Backflow prevention devices are to be tested annually. Backflow devices are required to be installed on:

Fire lines
Commercial water lines
Multi-Family residential properties

If you have backflow assemblies at your property, you will receive a reminder letter two months prior to your testing due date

Please notify Ken-Caryl Ranch Water & Sanitation District of any changes such as:

Change of Mailing Address
Change of Point of Contact
Any addition or change of backflow assemblies

Backflow prevention devices are typically enclosed in a mesh or fence so they can not be tampered with.

Program Requirements

Tests are due within 10 days of your device test due date (listed on your reminder letter)

Failed backflow device test results need to be submitted immediately, and a passing test result needs to be received within 5 days of the initial failed test.

Ken Caryl Water and Sanitation does not perform backflow device testing. The property owner is required to hire a professional to install and/or test a backflow device. The District requires that testers be certified either with ABPA (American Backflow Prevention Association) or ASSE (American Society of Sanitary Engineering) in order to test backflow devices.

If there is a property within the District that does not follow these program requirements and pose a health risk to the water supply, Ken-Caryl Ranch Water & Sanitation District may suspend service to the property until the requirements are met.

We follow the specifications of both Denver Water and the Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment.
